If you’ve driven up and down I-83 at all, you’ve seen the signs for Maple Donuts. I’ve lived here for many years now, with many trips to the Baltimore airport, the Maple Donut billboards taunting me. Until a few weeks ago, I had never stopped!
I pulled into the Etters location of Maple Donuts, right off I-83. The first thing I noticed was a clean, quaint 70s style building with Old Glory flying proudly overhead and a huge donut statue out front. That’s a photo op if I’ve ever seen one.
Maple Donuts is not actually named after the delicious rectangular dessert made with brown sugar and maple extract. No! Charles Burnside and his father (not sure his name) opened Maple Donuts just after WWII, in 1946, on Maple Street in York, PA. What an appropriate site and just good Karma, wouldn’t you say?
Over the years they have expanded into three locations in York and one in Etters.
Nathaniel Burnside, Charles’ son, now leads the business.
Do you love this place? I’d love to hear about your experiences there. I loved my visit there. The manager and workers were so fun and so helpful to me while making the video. Melissa even danced with me for a bit. Haha. Writing about these donuts right now at 6:30am on a sunny summer Friday makes me realize I need an excuse to drive to Etters today!
