At 15 years old, Natale Amato came to the U.S. from Sicily to live with his uncle. Amato worked at a pizza shop in Mechanicsburg and because he was so young, inexperienced, & language challenged, the workers and owner only let him wash dishes, no interaction with customers or food prep.

Natale stayed late at night at the pizza shop all alone and taught himself how to make pizzas. He made 100's of them without anyone knowing that he was practicing. Then one day he asked if he could try. The staff was surprised and instantly knew he’d been working hard to gain their respect. He began working on the make line and answering the phone.

Pretty soon Natale was interested in having his own place and they started looking for spaces for a new pizza shop. The space at Hummelstown square was available so he leased it on a handshake deal and got started. Eventually he bought the building and now owns all of it with the Great Room and the cigar lounge and bar.

Natale's sons also work with him. His son, Vito, has taken over management. The Amato's are major players in the area's Italian food scene; another of Natale's sons owns Your Way in Hummelstown and Natale's wife owns Mangia Mangia on 743 in Hershey.
