Oh gosh, I had a bad first experience here. But it wasn’t the food or service. It was user error. My bad.
Yeah, I was supposed to meet Steve Fleming, president of the Harrisburg Builder’s Association at Denim Coffee to interview him for a piece I was writing for Harrisburg Magazine about the local housing market. I showed up to the interview just in time...to find out I was at the wrong location. Evidently they have SEVEN locations! Who knew. I went to the Harrisburg location, seems normal, right?? And Steve had gone to the Mechanicsburg location. Full disclosure, when I re-read my emails, Steve told me Mechanicsburg...
Anyway, when I finally arrived to our meeting 20 minutes late, I got a real treat. Not just the food and drinks, (I got a steamed milk, my favorite) but the lovely, historic setting in downtown Mechanicsburg.
Steve is part of a partnership that owns the building. It’s so cool and quaint and actually housed the county jail some time ago. Steve showed me the two remaining cells in the basement of the building. How wild is that? Maybe if you’re lucky, when you visit someone will take you down there to see some real Mechanicsburg history. When I first posted about the jail cells, my friend Dan Wener commented that his dad worked there! Crazy.
Upstairs is an art studio and event space with tons of natural light coming through the big windows looking out over West Main Street.
Oh, and here’s the link to that article, from June 2024 Harrisburg Magazine. We’re on page 20!
